Upcoming Events:

 Homework:Each Friday the children will bring home a homework packet that is due the following Friday. Their first homework packet went home today and is due on Friday, September 23^rd. The following is included in the packet:

• Spelling Words: Study these words for the test next Friday.
• Reading Log: Read 4 nights for at least 20 minutes this week. Have a parent sign your sheet.
• Math Log: Practice your math facts for at least 10 minutes on 4 different days this week.
• 2-Sided Math Sheet: Please do all of the problems on both sides.

 Important Information:

• Scholastic Book Order: I have sent out an email for our first book order. It is due by September 23^rd if you are choosing to order. Please let me know if you have any questions. You can order at Scholastic.com. Our class code is QMCQ3.
• Back To School Night: Thank you to those who were able to join us on Tuesday. If you weren’t able to come, I sent home the information packet with your child on Wednesday.
• Fund Run:

Fund Run 2022 is set for Friday, September 30, 2022! Fund Run Letters have been mailed. Be on the lookout for yours to arrive this week!  Please return your child’s t-shirt/medical release form ASAP!  Thank you to those who have returned yours! Continue to collect those pledges. Thank you! 

• MAP Testing: We started MAP testing this week and it went pretty well! Please try your best to have your child at school and ready (well rested) on the following days:

• Parking Lot: Please be aware that it may take extra time getting out at the end of the day.  Thank you so much for your patience!  Also, please remind your child to use the crosswalk when entering the lot.  Thank you!

 Highlights from our Week:

• Math: The 3^rd graders continued to review addition and subtraction this week. During their Number Corner they worked on multiplication strategies and graphing. The 4^th graders continued to review division and multiplication strategies. During Number Corner they worked on place value, multiplying by 11, as well as measuring inches, feet, and yards in fractions & decimals.
• Religion: We continued to build community in our class this week. Your kiddos are pretty sweet Leaders in Action, Modeled on Christ. We also began our new Religion unit on the Ten Commandments. We began our unit by reading the passage in Exodus in our Bibles together. We had a great discussion about Moses and how he was Called by God to lead the Israelites. We were able to relate his calling to our own school theme, “Called to Christ.” On Friday, we began learning the First Commandment.
• Reading: We began our first comprehension study on inference. We are learning that we infer in reading when we use our schema (background knowledge) and our context clues. We learned how to use sticky notes to jot down our thinking as we read. We learned that reading is thinking and that we need to comprehend what we read. I also wrapped up my reading assessments this week.
• Writing: We began our fictional narratives this week. We used our true story ideas we made last week and turned one of the ideas into a story. We learned how to organize our narratives first on a Four Square. We then started small with learning how to write a lead paragraph.
• Grammar: I am teaching the 4^th and 3^rd graders separately this year. The 4^th graders worked on subjects and verbs in sentences while the 3^rd graders worked on capitalizing the letter “I” everywhere in a sentence.
• Science: We began our first unit on Soils, Rocks, and Landforms. The children are learning new vocab (ask your child what humus is). They loved creating 4 different types of soils that may be found in the forest, mountains, river delta, and desert (see the above picture). They were wonderful at comparing the different types of soils.
• Social Studies: We began our new unit on Washington State by gathering our schema on what we know about Washington.
