The History of St. Al’s
SCROLL
September 8, 1916
St. Aloysius Gonzaga parish, in conjunction with the Sisters of Holy Names Academy opened the doors of St. Aloysius Gonzaga Catholic Grade School in an existing building on the campus of Gonzaga University.
1940
The school relocated to 611 E Mission Ave, our current location
1950
Ten years later, the east wing was added to accommodate the school’s growth
Circa 2000
About 20 years ago, we began dreaming and researching exactly what facility improvements would be necessary to best serve our students and their families in the 21st century.
2008-2014
Extensive strategic planning and initial fundraising allowed us to purchase the property that is now the northeast corner of our playfield. We sold and relocated the home that was on that property, expanded our playfield, and made many necessary facility improvements in our main school building. This time period later became known as Phase 1 of our Building the Future Capital Campaign.
February 2015
We officially and publicly launched our Building the Future Capital Campaign to raise funds for a new building on our campus. To more fully support our mission, the new building was designed to include a double-court gymnasium, additional Early Learning Center classrooms, visual and performing arts classrooms, and a STEM classroom. We initially launched the capital campaign as one large, continuous project and soon realized that in order to successfully reach our goals, the best plan was to separate the project into phases. Thus, everything that happened from 2008-2014 became known as Phase 1.

June 2017
Not long after the launch of our Building The Future capital campaign, we decided that construction of the gymnasium and Early Learning Center classrooms was the most critical task at that time. This portion of the project became known as Phase 2. Through various appeals for the campaign such as our Groundbreaker Challenge and Cross The Phase 2 Finish Line, we reached our goal and broke ground in June 2017!

August 2018
We completed construction of the gymnasium, three toddler care classrooms, and two infant care classrooms.
September 2018
We opened our doors to new families and our youngest students ever, welcoming children ages 6 weeks-14 years!
September 2019
Once we had completed a full operational year in our new building, we began to work toward the third and final phase of the campaign. Phase 3 - Full STEAM Ahead would include completion of the second floor including classrooms for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), performing arts, and visual arts. Even in the midst of a global pandemic, we continued toward our Phase 3 goal, believing that the delay must be part of God’s plan.
June 2021
With an eternal faith in God’s plan and the OVERWHELMING GENEROSITY of loyal benefactors like YOU, we did it! We began construction on Phase 3 - Full STEAM Ahead.
