WCEA Accreditation

We are thrilled to announce that we recently completed our WCEA K-8 accreditation process with flying colors! The Western Catholic Educational Association conducts the accreditation process through the approved protocol – Improving Student Learning (ISL 2012) for Catholic elementary schools.

During the 2017-18 school year, our faculty and staff conducted a self-study based on the ISL protocol.

These protocols are criteria-based and lead the school to examine specific aspects of school life and the extent at which they are met in this time in the school’s history such as:

  • Catholic Identity (the school is measured by 8 standards, i.e. prayer life, sacramental life, service projects, and the permeation of Catholic values in all aspects of school life)

  • Organization for Learning (how the school is governed and administered)

  • Curriculum and Instruction (what is learned and how it is taught)

  • Support Services (Academic Counseling, Assisting Students with Special Needs, Spiritual Counseling)

  • Resources (Financial and Human Resources)

Upon completion of our self study, we cooperatively finalized documentation earlier this school year in preparation for a three-day visit by an accreditation team composed of educators who are trained evaluators from other schools with educational expertise.

In March, our Visiting Committee spent three days with our school community after review of the Self Study document. During the three-day visit, the Committee visited classrooms, investigated the written evidence of responses to the WCEA criteria, held interviews with members of the school community, and prepared a written report on its findings.

Our Visiting Committee’s Report of Findings is attached. We received excellent feedback and a recommendation for a full Accreditation Status for 6 years, the maximum allowed!

Visiting Committee Summary Thoughts:

The Visiting Committee found St. Aloysius Gonzaga Catholic School to be a strong community rooted in Catholic Identity. The school’s mission, “leaders in action modeled in Christ” was evident throughout our visit. From Monday Morning Prayer to Ash Wednesday Mass to classroom visits, we found that all students, grades K-8, are encouraged to be leaders. We found the principal to be a model of servant leadership for St. Aloysius Gonzaga Catholic School. Both the dministration and faculty and clearly support the spiritual and academic achievements of the students, and the school recognizes the areas in which it needs grow in order to provide high achievement for all students. Catholic Identity is woven throughout all curricular areas at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Catholic School, and one of the school’s strength is its community. The Logan Neighborhood and beyond is blessed to have this ministry in their midst to provide a strong education rooted in Catholic values.
