They can move onto multiplication if these are mastered. Fourth graders should be doing multiplication and division. If you want practice sheets for all facts, I have them on my website under the documents tab.
- Two-Sided Math Sheet: Please do all of the problems.
Important Information:
- Monday Morning Prayer: Our class leads Prayer this coming Monday, October 17th. Please have your child to school on time (by 8:30) so we can get to the gym early to prepare. Please join us if you can! We will start as a whole school at about 8:45 in the Garco Gym. All students have parts in this prayer and may need to practice at home.

- Volunteers Needed: We need class volunteers for two upcoming events. First is the walk to the church on Wednesday, October 26th. We need help crossing our three 3rd and 4th grade classes on our way to and from the church. We would need you to be here from 11:45-1:15. The second is the Halloween Party on October 31st. We are planning to have group rotations for our party and need some parents (or grandparents) to lead the rotations. I would need you here at about 1:10 to set up during our recess. All volunteers need to be Virtus trained. Contact Aleisha Webb (awebb@stalsschool.org) if you need to be trained before volunteering. You cannot volunteer without this training. Thank you!

*Doors will open at 5:30 PM.*All activities, games, booths, and food will be located in our main school building.*Hallowfest sponsorship and volunteer opportunities will be available starting on Monday, October 10.*Ticket sales will begin on Monday, October 17.Highlights from our Week:
- Math: The 3rd graders began learning about multiplication models in their new unit. This week we really focused on using arrays to help us solve multiplication models. This method is revisited in 4th grade as the area model when they multiply larger numbers. The 3rd grade October Calendar Grid focus is geometric shapes and lines of symmetry. Our collector for the month is liquid volume. We are learning what volume is and how many milliliters are in a liter.
The 4th graders are working on place value of numbers into the millions. They are also working on using the area model of multiplication to multiply multi-digit numbers. During Calendar Grid, they are exploring how fractions of 100 are related to decimals. Our collector this month is place value into the millions. We are playing a fun game in which we compare and add numbers into the millions.
- Religion: We prepped for our Monday Morning Prayer next week. We decided to teach the school what we have been learning about the Ten Commandments in Religion. We have realized that we can tie this year’s theme “Called to Christ: Discover, Listen, Lead” to the Commandments and our leadership during Monday Morning Prayer. We know we are called by God to follow the Commandments. So, we “discovered” this, “listened” to God’s Call, and are “leading” Monday Morning Prayer. We also continued our Personal Safety unit this week. This unit is wrapping up shortly.
- Reading: During Literature Circles, we learned the role of the “Passage Picker.” We practiced this role as we read chapter 5 in our novels. During the Lit Circles the following day, the groups used their favorite passages as discussion ideas about the chapter. Each time they learn a new role, I collect their sheets and grade them for understanding. You should see these sheets coming home weekly.
During our comprehension skills practice, we continued to practice finding the meanings of words using our inference skills.
- Grammar: The 3rd graders began their unit on nouns. The 4th graders continued learning about pronouns.
- Science: We learned about Sedimentary Rocks.
- Social Studies: We continued our study of the regions of Washington state. We learned about the Puget Sound Lowlands. We used the Chromebooks to research various information for our process grids on this region.
