Lost and Found: All lost and found items will be donated to charity on February 5th. Please claim your items before then.
Annual Open House: We are gearing up for our annual Open House tours on February 7th and 9th. If you know anyone interested in Catholic education at our school, please encourage them to sign up for a tour! If the family you refer enrolls, you will receive $100 tuition credit.
Enrollment Information: FACTS is open for the 2023-2024 school year. If you are applying for Fair Share tuition, you must complete FACTS.
Annual Fund: Please consider making a donation to our Annual Fund this year. It plays a vital role in our operating budget. We are in a class competition until February 3rd for the most students donating in each class. We are hoping to have 100% of our families participate with any size of donation. Thank you to those of you who have already made a donation!
Highlights from our Week:
Math: The 4th graders learned how to convert fractions to decimals, as well as find equivalent fractions. The 3rd graders also found equivalent fractions using unit fractions. They compared fractions with the > < = symbols as well as added fractions with like denominators.
Religion: We continued learning the Beatitudes. We learned “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall receive God.” We also learned “Blessed are the Peacemakers for they will be called children of God.” The children are loving a short video series called Douglas Talks on the Beatitudes. This series really explains each Beatitude at their level.
Grammar: The 3rd graders learned about indefinite pronouns. The 4th graders learned active and passive voice of verbs.
Writing: We discussed how to wrap up our 5 paragraph essays, as well as learned how to edit and revise them. The children finished their essays which I will be grading.
Word Work: We continued working in small groups and whole groups on phonics, including multi-syllabic spelling and affixes. My small group worked on “wh” and “ph” words. My whole group worked on the prefix, “en.” They learned it means put into or cover with. They then spelled multi-syllabic words with that prefix.
Reading: We continued our novel studies during Lit Circles, as well as we continued learning how to annotate and paraphrase our thinking to make meaning. Over the last two weeks, we have really learned how to paraphrase what we read so we can make sense of it. I have told them that this is a strategy they will use even when they are adults. We also loved reading to the Chickadees again!
Science: We designed our own circuit designs to solve the problem: Which circuit (series or parallel) is better to display a string of lights?
Social Studies: We created flip-books for taking notes about the WA Coast tribes. We also looked at the map of the United States and learned where the Pacific Northwest is actually located.
